Technology & The Jewellery Industry

In Retail Tips & Trends, Technology

Technology has successfully revolutionised the entire world as we know it. From real estate, to the automobile industry, technology has left its trail of advancements for everyone to see. Surprisingly, even the jewellery industry got to experience its own developments.

In the past, the jewellery industry applauded nothing but sheer craftsmanship: people appreciated accessories made by hand, by people who pour their blood, sweat and tears into their masterpiece.

While that is also the case in the present, we can no longer ignore the advent of technology – so how has this new wave of innovation and technology changed the landscape of this industry?

CAD Technology:

CAD – or Computer Aided Design – technology is a kind of tech used to design the shape, style and cut of a piece of jewellery with a computer! CAD tech has been used in other fields such as cellphones, military, and even for building the Space Shuttle – and has now entered the jewellery scene.

With the help of computer software, people can design their own customer pieces of jewellery, and see their custom blueprints come to life. This adds a touch of personalisation to the entire endeavor of getting that perfect ring, necklace, bracelet, or the like. With this tech, people can recreate sentimental pieces of jewellery, or bring something entirely new to the table.

Wearable Tech:

One thing technology loves to promote is “practicality over aesthetics” – and in a world as dynamic and bustling as ours, this idea can’t be ignored.

That’s why the next step was inevitable: jewellery made to complement your outfit, and connect you with your handheld devices. Such smart rings and watches have a wealth of interesting features, like tracking your activity, keeping you updated with social media, and even attend calls. It proves to show how helpful technology can be in the most unexpected – and aesthetically pleasing! – ways.

Broadening Horizons:

Technology has not only benefited wearers, but sellers as well. Jewellery stores have used technological advancements to expand their presences beyond their brick-and-mortar stores.

Some jewellery store owners have entered the web, where they sell their products online. The Internet undoubtedly offers a larger audience than any street can, hence store owners have found the perfect place to interact with a larger pool of potential customers one-on-one.

Brick-and-mortar stores have also found their own ways to use technology to their advantage – mainly in the form of modern point-of-sale (POS) systems. Oscar POS is one POS system in Pakistan that is capable of modernising jewellery stores. It’s got multiple management systems integrated within its unified platform, allowing owners to be in full control of inventory, sales, reports, accounts, and a lot more, all at once. This way, growth becomes inevitable.

When we look at the future, we think of many questions: what does it have in store for us? What other technological advancements will we witness? Will they be burdens, or blessings?

The answers to those questions feel fuzzy. For now, all we can do is hope for good outcomes. So far, we have seen an increased amount of satisfaction among both jewellery store owners and purchasers – so who knows? Maybe technology has a lot more great innovations to uncover.
